Competition details

Participation

The ROTORTHON 2024 consists of two separate challenges for which teams can apply individually. An Online Challenge as well as a Live Challenge 

 

There are places available for three (3) teams consisting of a maximum of three (3) members for the Online Challenge as well as for three (3) teams consisting of a maximum of three (3) members for the Live Challenge. Individual applications will not be considered as valid. 

 

The Online Challenge will take place from the 7th to the 14th of October 2024. 

 

The Live Challenge will take place in Amsterdam from the 5th to the 7th of November 2024, with arrivals taking place on the 4th of November.

During the 24h competition, the teams will be provided with dinner, breakfast, and lunch.

Teams' composition

Teams shall be composed of 3 (three) or 4 (four members. The competition is reserved for students enrolled in a university at the moment of the application. The event is open to bachelor’s and master’s degree students pursuing a BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng, or equivalent degree qualification. 

 

Every team shall appoint its Team Leader and communicate their name in the application form. Team Leaders will be the one and only contact point with the Ideathon organisation team. 

 

The teams are not encouraged to change the composition of their teams. Details on team changes are explained in the application rules.  

 

Categories and challenges

The challenges will be published on the13thof October. 

 

The teams will have until the18stof Octoberto communicate to the organisation team the priority list of challenges. 

 
In case this has not been done within the deadline, teams will be assigned to a challenge. 

 

The chosen/assigned challenge will be communicated by the organisation committee on the 21stof October. 

Evaluation committee

The evaluation committee will be composed by appointed experts from each company and it will be announced before the beginning of the first phase of the competition.

Prizes

EUROAVIA provides free participation to the final of the competition for the winning teams of the first phase of the competition. The winning team in the final and the other participating teams will win additional prizes in the final.

Team Application 

 

To apply as a participating team of the ROTORTHON 2024 for either the Online Challenge or the Live Challenge, you must fill out the form available on the website. You can choose whether you only want to compete in the online challenge or only in the physical challenge. If you want to apply for both challenges, you can name a preference in the application form. In that case you will get assigned a challenge where there is space for your team. You cannot participate in both challenges.

After the applications have concluded the International Board of EUROAVIA will determine the participating teams based on technical expertise, innovative spirit and interdisciplinary collaboration. 

 
Emails will be sent to each team after the International Board of EUROAVIA has decided on the participating teams communicating their team’s status for the ROTORTHON 2024. This includes informing teams that applied for both challenges about which challenge they are going to compete in.  
 
The accepted teams will have seventy-two (72) hours after receiving their confirmation of participation to proceed with the payment and send the proof of payment to rotorthon.2024@euroavia.eu. If no proof is received within these seventy-two (72) hours, the place will be given to the next team on the waiting list.   

Participation fee and payment

Online Challenge

 

Participation in the oline challenge is free.

 

The winning team will get the opportunity to attend the winning ceremony in Amsterdam during the Live Challenge. They will be provided with accommodation for three (3) nights (04th 07th of November 2024) as well as breakfast, catering and local transportation.

 

Additionally, each team member of the winning team will receive travel support of 250€, reimbursed upon submission of the necessary receipts. 

 

Live Challenge

 

The participation fee for the Live Challenge is 50€ (EUR 50) per Person. It must be paid upon confirmation of a team’s participation. It covers three (3) nights (04th – 07th of November 2024) of accommodation, as well as breakfast, catering and local transportation.  

 

The payment information regarding the participation fee will be provided to the teams as well as the participants via email, once confirmed. 

 

Arrival and departure will be paid for by the participants and must be arranged by them. 

Cancellation rules

No refounds will be made once the full payment is completed.

Confidentiality and Intellectual Property of the developments

The organizers will not take responsibility for any action made by a participant and infringements of the confidentiality of the projects presented in this competition. 

Therefore, the participants are encouraged to take all the possible prevention measures to protect the information or the technical elements which can be subjected to Intellectual Property before taking part in the event. 

The participants commit themselves to inform the organizers about their Intellectual Property rights which are eligible for the work developed in this competition. 

The participants are not giving in its totality the rights that could arise from the ideas developed during the competition. However, they authorize to use parts of the development or the ideas for the dissemination of the event and the promotion of the candidates. Hence, this authorisation is done in order to help to the promotion of the competition, and it is a non-exclusive and non-limited time cession. 

Any other matter related with the Intellectual Property rights will be regulated by the corresponding European regulation: Directive (EU) 2019/790 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market and amending Directives 96/9/EC and 2001/29/EC. 

This authorization may be restricted if demanded by the company to be in accordance with the confidentiality of the project.
